Best Chrome extensions for creators

The best Chrome extensions for creators are GoFullPage and FireShot for screenshots, ColorZilla and Site Palette for colors, Buffer for scheduling posts, and ProWritingAid or Wordtune for polishing your words. Each covers one step between spotting an idea and publishing it, and most have a free way to start.

Creators spend half their day in the browser collecting things: a layout you like, a color, a quote, a link worth posting. These picks make that collecting faster and turn it into finished work. They suit designers, writers, bloggers and anyone who runs a social account. Every fact comes from the extension's Xplorekit page.

Capturing screens and pages

GoFullPage

Captures a whole page in one click, or with Alt+Shift+P, as you scroll. Save it as PNG, JPEG or a PDF. Good for saving design references and portfolio pages. It has a free Basic plan, and an optional Premium adds editing tools.

FireShot

Capture a full page, a selection or the visible area and save it as PDF, PNG, GIF, JPEG or BMP. The basic extension is free, and a paid Pro version adds an editor and more capture options. Pick it over GoFullPage when you want a PDF or other formats from a full-page capture.

Screenity

A screen recorder, not a still screenshot tool. Record a tab, an area, the desktop or your camera, draw and add text or arrows while you record, then cut, trim and crop. Export mp4, gif or webm. Our page says it suits people making tutorials, demos or feedback videos who do not want a hosted tool. It is open source, the README says it is free, and a separate paid Screenity Pro exists.

Picking colors and palettes

ColorZilla

An eyedropper, color picker and gradient generator with seven built-in palettes. Its Webpage Color Analyzer lets you inspect the colors of page elements. Colors you sample are copied to your clipboard as Hex, CSS RGB and other formats. The developer states it collects no data.

Site Palette

Pulls a whole website's color palette in one click, rather than one pixel at a time. Export it to Figma, Sketch, Adobe Swatch or SVG, or import it into Figma as local variables with the official plugin. Useful for mood boards and brand research. It has a trial and paid plans, so check the vendor's current terms.

Chromapicker

A free, open-source color picker with an eyedropper, page-color extraction, palettes from a local image, a mixer and CSS gradients. Our page says it suits designers and front-end developers who want more than a basic eyedropper. It is a young project with one maintainer, and picked values are clamped to sRGB.

Colour Contrast Checker

Once you have picked colors, test them. It grades a text colour against a background colour for WCAG 2 AA and AAA, for normal and large text, and has an eyedropper to sample colours from the page. Our page says it suits designers and front-end developers. It is open source, asks only for activeTab, and checks one pair at a time, not a whole page.

Scheduling social posts

Buffer

Found something worth posting? Click the Buffer icon on the page and choose Create Post to send it to your Buffer composer, or Save Idea to keep it for later. Posts go to the channels connected in your Buffer account. Our page names solo creators and small teams as its best fit. The extension is free and needs a Buffer account.

Writing and editing

ProWritingAid

Goes past grammar with 25+ writing reports that look at your whole draft. It works in Google Docs, Notion and writing apps such as Atticus and Campfire. Best for editing long drafts. Free plan with limits, paid plans.

Wordtune

Instead of only flagging errors, it offers whole new ways to say a sentence. It can also shorten, expand or generate text. Handy for tightening a caption, a hook or an intro. The free Basic plan has daily limits on rewrites and unlimited grammar and spelling checks, with paid plans above it.

Case Converter Tool (made by Xplorekit)

Our own free extension. Turn a line into Title Case for a headline, strip formatting from pasted text, fill a mockup with Lorem ipsum, or make a kebab-case slug for a URL or file name. It works offline, uploads nothing and needs no account.

Saving research and inspiration

Obsidian Web Clipper

Obsidian describes it as a free browser extension that highlights pages and saves them into your local vault as Markdown. Highlight just the passages you want, or use templates for a repeatable format. It needs the Obsidian app, and images link to the web unless you download them.

How to choose

Match the tool to the work you ship. Designers get the most from Site Palette and ColorZilla, plus FireShot for saving full-page references. Writers and bloggers should start with ProWritingAid for long pieces or Wordtune for short copy. Social creators get the most from Buffer. If you make tutorials or demos, add Screenity for screen recordings. Almost everyone benefits from one screenshot tool. Pick GoFullPage for one-click full pages and FireShot if you want PDF output. Check the account needs first: Buffer only works with a Buffer account.

What is the best screenshot extension for creators?

It depends on what you do with the image. GoFullPage is best for full-page captures saved as PNG, JPEG or a PDF, in one click. FireShot is better if you want PDF, PNG, GIF, JPEG or BMP output. Both have free versions with limits, so check each vendor's current limits. Both developers say screenshots stay local.

How do I get the color palette of a website?

Use Site Palette. Open the site, click the toolbar icon, and it pulls the whole page's color scheme as one palette. You can export it to Figma, Sketch, Adobe Swatch or SVG. For a single color, ColorZilla's eyedropper is faster, and it copies the code to your clipboard automatically as Hex or CSS RGB.

Can I schedule social media posts from Chrome?

Yes. With Buffer's extension, you click its icon on any page to turn that article, image or link into a scheduled post, or save it as an idea. It sends posts to the channels connected in your Buffer account, and you need a Buffer account. Our social media schedulers page covers four other options, mostly aimed at agencies.

Good to know

Install only what you need. Before you click "Add to Chrome", read the permissions: does the tool ask for more than its job needs? Check the publisher too, and remove tools you stopped using. Our how we choose page lists the checks we use. To compare two tools head to head, see Lightshot vs GoFullPage and ColorZilla vs ColorPick Eyedropper.
