Start with what you capture most. If you need whole pages, look for full-page capture that scrolls and stitches the page for you. If you mostly grab a small part of the screen, a fast region-select tool saves steps.
| Extension | Best for | Stand-out feature |
|---|---|---|
| GoFullPage | Fast one-click full-page captures | PNG, JPEG or PDF export, with a free Basic plan |
| FireShot | Full-page captures saved as PDF or image | PDF, PNG, GIF, JPEG or BMP, with a free basic extension |
| Awesome Screenshot | Capture, markup and screencasts in one place | Annotation and screen recording, with local or cloud saves |
| Lightshot | Quick region grabs | Select an area, edit it, then save, copy or upload for a link |
| Screenity | Recording your screen (video, not stills) | Draw on screen while you record, then cut, trim and crop; export mp4, gif or webm |
For most people, GoFullPage is the simplest choice. It captures a full page in one click and exports PNG, JPEG, or PDF, with a free Basic plan. If you need PDF or other formats from a full-page capture, pick FireShot. For markup and screen recording in one tool, pick Awesome Screenshot. For small region grabs, pick Lightshot.
Install GoFullPage, open the page, and click the extension icon or press Alt+Shift+P. It captures the page as you scroll, and its FAQ says you can export the result as PNG, JPEG, or PDF. Very long pages can be split into several images.
FireShot and Awesome Screenshot can also capture the full page.
Awesome Screenshot is the pick to start with for markup. You choose a capture mode, take the shot, then annotate it, and you can also record a screencast. It has a free tier with limits and paid plans, so check the vendor’s current limits before you rely on it for regular work.
Lightshot lets you edit a selected area with Pixlr Editor. In FireShot and GoFullPage, the editing tools are part of the paid Pro and Premium tiers.
Lightshot is a quick way to share a small part of a page. Select a region, edit it, then upload it for a share link. An uploaded shot is public to anyone with the link, so save it to disk instead if it is private. Awesome Screenshot shares by link too, and its cloud items are private by default.
GoFullPage and FireShot can both save a capture as PDF. GoFullPage exports PNG, JPEG or PDF, per its FAQ, and FireShot saves PDF, PNG, GIF, JPEG or BMP. Lightshot saves JPG, PNG or BMP, or shares by link. We do not state a PDF option for Awesome Screenshot, so check its pages first.
Screenity is a screen recorder. You can record a tab, an area, the desktop, an application or your camera, draw and add text or arrows while you record, then cut, trim and crop in the built-in editor. It exports mp4, gif or webm. It is mainly a video tool, so for still captures use one of the screenshot extensions above.
