Start with the app your notes already live in. Every pick here is the official extension for one notes app or annotation service, and each saves into that one only. Installing a clipper for an app you don't use adds one more place to search later.

It depends mostly on which notes app you already use. Pick Notion Web Clipper for Notion, Google Keep for Google's ecosystem, Evernote Web Clipper for Evernote, OneNote Web Clipper for Microsoft 365, and Obsidian Web Clipper for an Obsidian vault. Each is the official extension, so clips land in the app you already search.
If you have no notes app yet, choose based on whether you want quick notes, a hosted account, or local files.
OneNote Web Clipper’s Article clip saves editable text and images, and its preview toolbar lets you highlight text. Evernote Web Clipper offers article, full-page and screenshot clips, with annotation tools for screenshots. Obsidian Web Clipper captures the main article by default and saves it as Markdown in your vault.
Pick by where you want the clip to end up: a hosted notebook, a Notion database or local Markdown files.
Google Keep suits quick capture. Right-click a selection and choose “Save selection to Keep”, right-click an image to save it, or click the toolbar button to save the page you are on. You need a Google account. Notes written inside the extension do not autosave, so finish them on keep.google.com.
Obsidian Web Clipper is the local-first pick. Obsidian says clips become Markdown files in your vault, which you can read offline. Images link to the web unless you download them. It needs the Obsidian app and a vault. The clipper itself does not sync, so how the vault syncs is up to you.
Install Notion Web Clipper, log into Notion in your browser, then click the Notion icon next to the address bar. Pick the workspace and the page or database, then press “Save page” or Enter. Notion’s help page says you add tags and other properties after the clip, inside the database.
Yes, Joplin Web Clipper. It clips into Joplin, which its README calls a free, open source note-taking and to-do app. The extension is open source under AGPL-3.0-or-later. It needs the Joplin desktop app running with the Web Clipper service turned on. We did not check Joplin Cloud prices.
SiYuan Clipper. It is the official browser extension for SiYuan. Select text, choose “Copy to SiYuan” and paste into SiYuan, or clip the whole page. It needs the SiYuan app and an API token, and does nothing without them. Its source is public on GitHub under the Mulan PSL v2 license.
Hypothesis. It lets you highlight, annotate and tag web pages and PDFs with your Hypothesis account, and shows your annotations in a sidebar. The extension is open source under BSD-2-Clause. Your annotations are stored with the account, so plan to be online when you annotate. We could not read the developer’s privacy policy when we checked; read it before installing.
