Why it's a strong pick

QuillBot puts grammar checking and paraphrasing in one extension. Its vendor says the grammar checker is free with unlimited checks. That is a real plus for everyday writing. The trade-off is privacy. QuillBot's help pages say it may store and train on your text unless you opt out, so set that up before you paste anything sensitive.

What it does

QuillBot's extension page says it lets you paraphrase, check grammar, analyze tone and improve fluency on the sites where you write. You pick text, and it suggests fixes or a rewrite. It is made by QuillBot, which belongs to Learneo, Inc., the same company that owns LanguageTool.

Key features

  • Grammar checker. The vendor describes it as free with unlimited grammar checks.
  • Paraphraser. Free, with a limit on text length and two free modes, Standard and Fluency. Check the vendor's current limits.
  • Tone and fluency tools. Named on the vendor's extension page.
  • Premium. Adds advanced suggestions, Tone Insights, more paraphrase modes and custom modes, per the vendor's help center. Check current prices on its site.
  • More than one language. The vendor says its grammar checker is multilingual, with 6+ languages.
  • Privacy opt-outs. The vendor's help pages describe settings for text storage and for training (see below).

Who it's for

QuillBot suits people who want to rewrite sentences as well as fix errors, and who will check the privacy settings. It is a weaker fit for confidential work unless you opt out first. If you only need grammar fixes, try Grammarly or LanguageTool. For another rewrite tool, see Wordtune.

Does QuillBot store my text or train on it?

By default, yes, unless you opt out. QuillBot's help page says inputs and usage data are used to provide the service and for training and personalisation. Since its 8 November 2025 policy update, extension users can opt out of text storage and account holders can opt out of training.

It says it does not sell your content. Read the privacy policy before you paste sensitive text.

Do I need an account to use QuillBot?

It depends on the site. QuillBot's help center says you do not need one on most sites, but you must sign in on Google Docs. Premium suggestions also need a login. If an account is a deal-breaker, test the extension on the sites you use before you rely on it.

What is free and what is Premium?

Per QuillBot's help pages, the grammar checker is free with unlimited checks. The paraphraser is free, with a limit on text length and two modes. Premium adds advanced suggestions, Tone Insights, more paraphrase modes and custom modes. Prices and limits change, so check the vendor's current limits on its site. We list no prices here.

What permissions does QuillBot ask for?

We did not confirm the exact permission list, so check the install prompt before you add it. A writing tool needs to read the text where you use it, which is why access can be broad. Permissions can change between releases, so check again after updates.
