LastPass alternatives
If LastPass's free plan feels too tight, six Chrome password managers are worth a look. Pick Bitwarden or Proton Pass for a free plan with unlimited devices. Pick 1Password if you will pay and want a trial first. Pick KeePassXC-Browser to keep your vault in a local file. Pick NordPass or RoboForm for a simple manager.
Why do people look for LastPass alternatives?
Often because of the free plan's limits. LastPass says its free plan is limited to one device type, allows basic sharing of one password with one person at a time, has no emergency access and offers self-service support. It includes a 30-day Premium trial. Others want an open-source option or a vault they keep themselves.

What is the best free LastPass alternative?
Bitwarden or Proton Pass. Bitwarden's free plan covers unlimited passwords on unlimited devices, and its client code is public on GitHub. Proton Pass's free plan covers unlimited logins, notes and cards on unlimited devices, with limited aliases and 2FA items. Both need a free account. Check each vendor's current plan before you switch.
What is the best LastPass alternative if I want open source?
Bitwarden, Proton Pass or KeePassXC-Browser. Bitwarden's client code is public on GitHub, though some code sits under a separate licence. Proton says its apps and extensions are open source. KeePassXC-Browser is open source under GPL v3, but needs the KeePassXC desktop app running to work, and your vault stays in a local file.
Which LastPass alternative keeps my vault on my own computer?
KeePassXC-Browser. It connects Chrome to the KeePassXC desktop app through native messaging, and your passwords stay in a KeePassXC database on your own computer. There is no cloud copy unless you make one, so back up the database file. The extension does nothing if KeePassXC is closed.
Which LastPass alternative is best if I will pay?
1Password, NordPass or RoboForm. 1Password has no free plan, only a free trial, and says it holds SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001. NordPass's free plan is limited to one active device; Premium adds more. RoboForm's free plan does not sync, and sync is a paid feature. We list no prices.
What does LastPass offer?
From its Chrome Web Store listing and pricing page: an encrypted vault for passwords, passkeys, usernames and payment methods, autofill, a password and passphrase generator, secure notes and cards, sharing and MFA. The listing says data is encrypted with "bank-grade AES-256 encryption". That is LastPass's own claim.
What are the LastPass plans?
LastPass names three personal paid plans: Premium (1 user), Families (up to 6 users) and Plus (1 user, adds LastPass VPN, Windows only for now). Business plans are Teams, Business and Business Max. The listing says Premium adds unlimited devices, unlimited sharing, 1 GB of encrypted file storage, YubiKey MFA and emergency access. We quote no prices.
What data does LastPass say it handles?
The Chrome Web Store disclosure lists personally identifiable information, authentication information, location, user activity and website content, and says it is not sold outside approved use cases. That is the vendor's own account. Read LastPass's privacy policy before you decide.
FAQ

Bitwarden and Proton Pass both list unlimited devices on their free plans, each with Premium or paid extras.
Good to know
Turn on two-factor authentication on whichever manager you pick, and keep a recovery option so a lost device does not lock you out. Do not delete your old vault until you have checked that your logins work in the new one. (Xplorekit's own tip, not from a vendor.)
