RoboForm
A password manager from Siber Systems, Inc. The free plan is for one device with no sync.
Why it's a strong pick
RoboForm has a free plan with unlimited passwords on a single device. It also stores passkeys and offers passwordless unlock. The trade-off: the free plan does not sync. If you use a laptop and a phone, you need a paid plan. We found no independent audit or open-source statement for RoboForm, so we do not claim either.
What it does
RoboForm saves your passwords and fills them in when you log in. It generates strong passwords for new accounts and stores passkeys next to your logins. Its extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox is one product, called RoboForm Extension. RoboForm says it moved to the Manifest V3 package format.
Key features
- Autofill and login. Saves passwords and fills them in.
- Password generator. Makes strong passwords for new accounts.
- Passkey storage. RoboForm has a help page on storing passkeys.
- Passwordless unlock. RoboForm's help covers this, with a trusted device or hardware key for 2FA.
- Free plan. Unlimited passwords on a single device, with no sync.
- Premium sync. Sync across devices, sharing, web access, breach monitoring and emergency access.
Who it's for
RoboForm suits people who use one device and want a free plan, or people who will pay for sync. If you move between devices and want a free plan that syncs, look at Bitwarden or Proton Pass. If you want to compare paid options, look at 1Password, Keeper and NordPass.
Does the RoboForm free plan sync?
No. RoboForm's free plan covers unlimited passwords on a single device with no sync. RoboForm says sync is part of its paid plans, which it calls Everywhere and Business. That means a free account does not carry your logins to a second device. Check the current plan details on RoboForm's site.
What does Premium add?
RoboForm lists sync across devices, shared folders, sharing of single items, web access, data breach monitoring and emergency access for Premium, also called Everywhere. Free users can still receive RoboForm Data Objects and accept Emergency Access invitations, per RoboForm's help pages. We list no prices because they change.
What does RoboForm say about encryption?
RoboForm's white paper says data is encrypted with AES-256 and that keys come from your master password using PBKDF2 with SHA-256. It says encryption happens on your device and the master password is never sent to RoboForm. That is RoboForm's own account. We found no independent audit to point to.
What permissions does RoboForm ask for?
Check the install prompt on the Chrome Web Store listing before you add it. A password manager has to read and fill forms on the sites you visit, so expect a broad request. Permissions can change between releases, so read the prompt again after big updates.
FAQ
Who makes RoboForm? Siber Systems, Inc.
Does it work in other browsers? RoboForm says its Chrome, Edge and Firefox extensions are one product.
Can it store passkeys? Yes, per RoboForm's help pages.
Good to know
If you switch between a laptop and a phone, the free plan will not follow you, so plan for Premium or pick a manager with a free syncing plan. Turn on two-factor authentication for your account and keep a recovery option, so a lost device does not lock you out.
