YouTube Anti Translate

An open-source extension that stops YouTube from translating titles, descriptions and audio.

Add to Chrome Open source · Chrome Web Store · Source on GitHub

Why it's a strong pick

It fixes a problem that is easy to see if you speak more than one language: YouTube shows a translated title or plays a dubbed track you did not ask for. It is open source under the MIT license and uses Manifest V3, Chrome's current extension format. Its manifest asks for storage and YouTube access only. Its latest release came in September 2026.

What it does

YouTube Anti Translate stops auto-translated titles, descriptions, audio dubbing and channel branding, and restores the originals. It turns off automatic audio dubbing. The README lists support for Shorts, mobile YouTube (m.youtube.com), youtube-nocookie.com and embedded videos.

Key features

  • Original text restored. Titles, descriptions, chapters, thumbnails, channel branding and channel names.
  • No dubbing. It turns off automatic audio translation.
  • Wide coverage. Shorts, m.youtube.com, youtube-nocookie.com and embeds.
  • Toggles. Each feature has its own setting.
  • Per-channel exceptions. Set them by @handle.
  • Optional API key. You can add a YouTube Data API key for more reliable results.

Who it's for

It is for multilingual viewers who see translated titles or dubbed audio they do not want. If you watch videos in their original language and YouTube keeps changing it for you, this is the fix. The README is open about one overlap, covered below.

What permissions does YouTube Anti Translate ask for?

Its manifest asks for storage, and for access to youtube.com and youtube-nocookie.com. Its content scripts run only on those sites. That is a narrow list for the job, since the extension only changes YouTube pages. Read the install prompt before you add it, and check it matches this list.

Does it collect my data?

We could not read the developer's privacy policy when we checked; read it before installing. We found no policy file in the repo. The Firefox part of its manifest declares data collection permissions as "required: none". That is a Firefox manifest field, not a Chrome privacy policy.

Can I use it with DeArrow?

Yes, but both change YouTube titles, so set them up together. The README says to turn off "Untranslate titles" and "Untranslate video thumbnails" in Anti Translate, and to turn on "Default to Original Video Information" in DeArrow. Anti Translate then handles descriptions, audio and channel names, and DeArrow handles titles and thumbnails.

FAQ

Does it stop dubbed audio? Yes. The README says it turns off automatic audio (dubbing) translation.

Can I leave one channel alone? Yes. You can add exceptions by @handle.

Is it open source? Yes, under the MIT license.

Good to know

If you also use DeArrow, change the settings above before you judge either one. The optional API key can make results more reliable, and you enter it yourself in the settings. Turn features off one by one if a page looks wrong.
