How to choose a YouTube extension

Start with the problem that bothers you most.

  • Clickbait. DeArrow changes titles and thumbnails. It relies on the developer's servers and is in beta.
  • No dislike count. Return YouTube Dislike brings a count back, but part of it is estimated.
  • Unwanted translation. YouTube Anti Translate restores original titles, descriptions and audio.
  • Saving videos to your own server. Tube Archivist Companion only works with a Tube Archivist server that you run. It does nothing without one.
  • Too many suggestions. That is a different job. See RYS: Remove YouTube Suggestions in our distraction blockers.
  • Sponsor segments. See SponsorBlock in our ad blockers.
  • Access you grant. DeArrow, Return YouTube Dislike and YouTube Anti Translate ask for YouTube access only, plus the developer's own servers for the first two. Tube Archivist Companion asks for storage and cookies, plus access to youtube.com. Read each install prompt.
  • Privacy. For Return YouTube Dislike, the project's own FAQ lists what it sends. For DeArrow, YouTube Anti Translate and Tube Archivist Companion, we could not read the developer's privacy policy when we checked; read it before installing.

Comparisons and alternatives

Which extension fixes clickbait titles?

DeArrow. It shows crowdsourced titles and thumbnails, and falls back to a formatted original title and a video frame when none exist. A "show original" button lets you compare. The README says the project is in beta, and it needs the developer's servers to show crowdsourced titles.

Is the dislike count from Return YouTube Dislike exact?

No. The project's FAQ says the backend uses archived stats, plus estimates extrapolated from extension user data and from view and like ratios. Use the number as a guide. Its security FAQ lists what the extension sends, including the video ID and your IP address.

How do I stop YouTube translating titles and audio?

Use YouTube Anti Translate. It restores original titles, descriptions, chapters, channel names and thumbnails, and turns off automatic dubbing. Each feature has a toggle, and you can set exceptions by @handle. So you can keep translation on for some channels and off for the rest, and switch each restored item on or off by itself.

Can I use DeArrow and YouTube Anti Translate together?

Yes, with two settings changed. The Anti Translate README says to turn off its "Untranslate titles" and "Untranslate video thumbnails" options, and to turn on "Default to Original Video Information" in DeArrow. This avoids the two changing the same titles.

Can I save YouTube videos to my own server?

Only with your own setup. Tube Archivist Companion adds download and subscribe buttons on YouTube, but your own Tube Archivist server does the downloading, and the extension does nothing without it. It can sync your YouTube cookies to that server, so use it only with a server you trust. Check YouTube’s terms and the creators’ rights before saving videos.

Good to know

Each of these runs only on YouTube, and the first three work by changing the page, so a YouTube redesign can break one for a while. If something looks wrong, turn the extensions off one at a time to find the cause.

These are third-party extensions, not built or maintained by Xplorekit. We link to each official Chrome Web Store listing — install and permissions are entirely between you and the extension's own publisher.
