ZeroOmega vs FoxyProxy

Both are proxy switchers, not VPNs. Neither one encrypts your traffic or supplies a proxy. They send your browser through proxies you bring, and an untrusted proxy can see that traffic. ZeroOmega suits people coming from SwitchyOmega: profiles, a PAC script generator and optional sync. FoxyProxy suits pattern rules, a per-tab proxy and a WebRTC toggle.

Are ZeroOmega and FoxyProxy VPNs?

No. Both are proxy switchers. They send your browser traffic to proxies you set up and supply none themselves. Neither encrypts traffic on its own, and a proxy you do not trust can see what passes through it. Both extensions can see every request you make, because they need web request access on all sites.

Which is better, ZeroOmega or FoxyProxy?

Neither is better for everyone. Pick ZeroOmega if you want profile-based switching like SwitchyOmega, a PAC script generator and optional sync of your settings. Pick FoxyProxy if you want pattern rules, a proxy for just one tab and an optional WebRTC limit. We did not test speed or ease of use, so we make no claim on those.

Which one is the SwitchyOmega replacement?

ZeroOmega. Its README describes it as a fork of SwitchyOmega that works with Manifest V3. It keeps the profile and rule style, and adds a PAC generator and optional WebDAV or Gist sync. FoxyProxy is a separate project with a different rule style, so expect to relearn your setup if you move to it.

Does FoxyProxy come with a VPN?

No. The FoxyProxy company sells VPN and proxy servers, but the extension download does not include access to them without a purchase. The extension works with proxies you bring. You do not need to buy anything from the company to use it as a switcher. We list no plan names or prices.

Can I back up my proxy settings?

Yes, in both. ZeroOmega can sync settings through WebDAV and can create a Gist for you, both optional. FoxyProxy can export and import its settings, and export its log. If you keep many proxies, back up before you reinstall or switch browsers.

Are both still updated?

Yes, by the dates we saw. ZeroOmega's latest release was 3.5.2 on 16 September 2026. FoxyProxy's was 9.8 on 14 September 2026, after 9.7 on 9 September. These are GitHub release dates, not a promise of future updates. Both are Manifest V3 extensions.

Good to know

Tip: set your rules to send only the sites you need through a proxy, and leave the rest direct. Limit of this page: we did not read a privacy policy for either extension, and the WebRTC option's coverage is not verified, so do not treat it as a leak fix. If you want encrypted traffic, look at a real VPN in VPN and privacy tools.

FAQ

Is ZeroOmega the same as SwitchyOmega?
It is a fork of SwitchyOmega. The two are separate projects, and ZeroOmega works with Manifest V3.

Does FoxyProxy hide my IP address?
We make no such claim. It sends your traffic through the proxy you choose. What the destination site sees depends on that proxy.

Can I use both at once?
We don't recommend it. Both control the browser's proxy setting, so run one switcher at a time.
