Toby alternatives
Toby saves tabs into collections and spaces, but it now needs an account and keeps your saved tabs on its servers. If that is the problem, pick OneTab or Session Buddy for local data with no account. Pick Tab Session Manager or Tab Wrangler for free, open-source tools. Pick Workona if you want project spaces with cloud sync, like Toby.
Why do people leave Toby?
Three reasons are on record. Toby's help center says it can no longer support guest mode, so every user needs an account. Its privacy policy says Toby stores the tabs and lists you add. Its free plan also caps saved tabs (see below). We list only what Toby itself states.

What is the best Toby alternative with no account?
OneTab, if you want one simple list. Its privacy page says tab info is not sent to the OneTab developers or anyone else, apart from lists you choose to share as a web page, and lists are kept in your browser. We found no sync described. Session Buddy is the other no-account choice, built around sessions.
What is the best Toby alternative that keeps data on my device?
Session Buddy. Its privacy policy says it stores your collections, history and settings in files on your device, with no login or signup. Version 4.2.0 adds optional premium cloud collections. The trade-off is that you must back up yourself, as the vendor advises. See Toby vs Session Buddy and OneTab vs Session Buddy.
What is the best free, open-source Toby alternative?
Tab Session Manager if you want to save and restore sessions; Tab Wrangler if you want tabs cleaned up for you. Tab Session Manager is open source under MPL-2.0 and saves sessions manually or automatically. Tab Wrangler is open source under GPL-3.0 and closes idle tabs into a searchable Tab Corral. Pinned tabs and tabs playing audio are never closed.
What is the best Toby alternative with project spaces and sync?
Workona. Its own pages describe saving tabs into spaces, built-in tab suspension and automatic cloud save and sync across devices. It needs an account to be used as intended, and its free plan limits how many spaces you can create. These are vendor claims, so check Workona's pricing page for the current limit before you commit.
Does Toby limit how many tabs I can save?
Toby's help center says its free plan holds up to 60 saved tabs, and above that you cannot add tabs until you are back under 60. That is Toby's own statement, and plans change, so check the current number in Toby's help center before you decide.
What if I only want memory back?
Auto Tab Discard and The Marvellous Suspender free memory on idle tabs but do not keep a saved list for you to browse. Auto Tab Discard uses Chrome's own tab discarding. The Marvellous Suspender adds more timer controls and optional scheduled session backup.
FAQ
Is OneTab or Session Buddy better than Toby?
Neither is better for everyone. Toby organizes by project. OneTab and Session Buddy need no account and keep data local by default. See Toby vs OneTab and Toby vs Session Buddy.
Can I run two of these together?
Yes. Tab Wrangler cleans up idle tabs in the background, so it can sit beside a manual tool such as OneTab.
