OneTab alternatives

OneTab turns your open tabs into one list you can restore later, and says this saves memory. If it isn't enough, the right alternative depends on why. For searchable collections and crash recovery with no account, pick Session Buddy. For open source and hands-off cleanup, pick Tab Wrangler. For organizing tabs by project, pick Toby, or Workona if you need sync and team sharing.

What's the best free alternative to OneTab?

Session Buddy is the closest free-to-install alternative. Like OneTab, it needs no account. By default its data stays in files on your device, though version 4.2.0 adds optional premium cloud collections. The difference is scope: it saves tabs as collections you can colour-code and search, and its tab history helps you recover after a crash or restart.

Back up your data, because it is stored on your device. See our OneTab vs Session Buddy comparison for the full side-by-side.

What's the best open-source alternative to OneTab?

Tab Wrangler. Its full source is public on GitHub (tabwrangler/tabwrangler), so anyone can check what it does. It works differently from OneTab: it closes tabs that sit idle for a time you set (the README gives one hour as the default), and keeps them in a Tab Corral you can reopen. Pinned tabs and tabs playing audio are never closed.

You can also exclude sites you always want open. Tab Wrangler works in the background with no manual step, so it pairs well with a manual tool like OneTab rather than replacing it.

Which OneTab alternative syncs across devices?

Workona. It saves tabs into project spaces and syncs them to the cloud automatically, so a space you set up on one computer is ready on another. It also has built-in tab suspension and lets you share spaces with teammates. We found no sync described for OneTab, and Session Buddy's cloud collections are optional and premium.

Which OneTab alternative is best for organizing projects?

Toby, for solo work. It groups saved tabs into named collections, then groups collections into spaces for each project. Its side panel keeps saved tabs in view while you browse, and Toby 2.0 adds a notes editor. Workona fits better if a team shares project spaces. Toby needs an account and keeps your saved tabs on its servers.

Is OneTab safe?

We can't promise any extension is safe, but OneTab's stated practices are privacy-friendly. Its privacy page says tab information is not sent to the developers or any other party, except when you share a list as a web page. No account is mentioned. Its open-source status is not stated. If public code matters to you, Tab Wrangler is open source.

Good to know

More features usually means more of your data leaves the browser. OneTab says it sends no tab data out unless you share a list, and Session Buddy keeps data on your device by default. Workona syncs your tabs to the cloud. Toby stores the tabs you save on its own servers, and you need an account to use it. Workona says it is SOC 2 Type 2 compliant and commissions external penetration tests; we did not verify that. If you want your tab list to stay on your own machine, stick with a local tool.
